NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs)

NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are one of the most commonly used drug groups in the world. They help to treat acute or chronic pain and fever and decrease inflammation. NSAIDs inhibit enzymes that are responsible for pain and inflammation. As these drugs are used very broadly and frequently, it’s very important to recognize common side effects and contraindications.

Food allergy

A food allergy is caused when the immune system overreacts to food proteins. You can have an allergy to any food. Food allergy has imposed a global socioeconomic burden. Almost 6% of the U.S. population has a food allergy. The latter affects people of all ages, ethnicities, sexes, and socioeconomic strata. Food allergy symptoms may be diverse: from mild eye and nose itching to life-thretening anaphylaxis.

Stroke

Stroke is the medical term that describes the condition when the brain dies. The cause of stroke is loss of normal blood supply to brain tissue. A stroke is a medical emergency. If you think you or someone around you has signs and symptoms of stroke, call for an ambulance (in the U.S. and Canada, 9-1-1) right away. The main symptoms of stroke are walking and vision disturbances, weakness of the face and arms, and difficulty speaking. There are 2 main types of stroke: ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. Stroke can cause transient or permanent disabilities.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

Gastroesophageal reflux, also called “acid reflux,” is a condition when stomach contents and acid flow back to the esophagus, causing unpleasant sensations. Classic symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease are heartburn and regurgitation. The diagnosis is made clinically. Usually, mild symptoms relieve lifestyle and dietary modifications. Moderate and severe these should be treated with medications.

Spider veins (telangiectasias)

Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are small, damaged, superficial and visible blood vessels under your skin. Generally, spider veins are simply an aesthetic issue and couldn’t lead to health impairment. Yet, if spider veins coexist with CVI, the complications could be very severe: sores, skin ulcers, and thromboembolism. If you notice spider veins, talk to a healthcare provider to exclude CVI.
