Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is a medical term to describe a condition when fatty deposits build up inside the arteries. This process leads to the narrowing of the arterial lumen and reduction of blood flow. Atherosclerosis is the most common vascular disease worldwide. Symptoms are diverse, depending on which vessels are affected.

Celiac disease

Celiac disease is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease of the small intestines. The immune system attacks gluten molecules (food protein that is found mainly in wheat, barley, and rye) and damages the cells of the small intestines. This leads to malabsorption—the condition when small intestines are not able to properly absorb essential nutrients. Celiac disease is treated by complete elimination of gluten from your diet.

NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs)

NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are one of the most commonly used drug groups in the world. They help to treat acute or chronic pain and fever and decrease inflammation. NSAIDs inhibit enzymes that are responsible for pain and inflammation. As these drugs are used very broadly and frequently, it’s very important to recognize common side effects and contraindications.

Food allergy

A food allergy is caused when the immune system overreacts to food proteins. You can have an allergy to any food. Food allergy has imposed a global socioeconomic burden. Almost 6% of the U.S. population has a food allergy. The latter affects people of all ages, ethnicities, sexes, and socioeconomic strata. Food allergy symptoms may be diverse: from mild eye and nose itching to life-thretening anaphylaxis.
